The Raytheon Technologies Scholar Program is an initiative launched in April 2020 with the intention of encouraging future engineers to pursue STEM fields. It’s part of the company’s initiative to foster a pipeline of engineers while also having a positive impact on communities. The program helps high school students develop critical thinking skills, improve their grades, and gain practical experience in the aerospace industry.
SMASH Rising pods
SMASH Rising is a new program that helps young people prepare for careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Its first cohort placed 13 scholar-interns at three workplace partners in 2018. It has since experienced rapid growth, and it plans to place 105 scholar-interns at 16 partner sites by 2021. By 2022, it plans to accept 103 alumni.
The Raytheon Technologies Scholar program will launch in the spring of 2019 and will host SMASH Rising pods around the country. Each year, the company will award 30 new SMASH Academy alumni a SMASH Rising pod. These students will spend five weeks working alongside Raytheon Technologies engineers to create solutions to pressing global challenges. Through this program, the company hopes to lift communities and inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.
The program focuses on students of color pursuing careers in the STEM fields. The program will support these students through mentorship and internship programs. It will also award them with $40,000 scholarships to study computer science and engineering. The program is part of Raytheon Technologies’ Connect Up initiative, which is focused on developing a diverse pipeline of STEM talent.
Engineering is Elementary (EiE)
The Raytheon Technologies Scholar Program is dedicated to improving science and technology education by awarding scholarships to teachers. As a part of the Raytheon scholarship, educators will be trained to help teachers implement STEM education programs. In addition, district-level science coaches will attend training, which will help them improve their effectiveness as STEM leaders.
The Raytheon-Engineering is Elementary (EiE) scholarship program provides up to $3,000 to elementary science and math teachers. This award will also provide teachers with free access to materials created for this program. The program has been developed by the Museum of Science, Boston, and is designed to inspire elementary students to learn more about engineering. To date, the program has reached more than 6 million students and 71,000 teachers.
The EiE scholarship program will award nearly 100 teachers nationwide with $2 million to train in EiE curriculum. As part of the program, teachers will attend professional development workshops in Boston and receive an extensive set of resources to enhance their classrooms. With the money provided by Raytheon, teachers will be able to expand the EiE curriculum to a wider audience.
The Raytheon Company is extending its commitment to science and math education by donating $1 million to the Museum of Science, Boston’s Engineering is Elementary (r) program. This gift will help train thousands of educators around the country in STEM education. The gift was announced at the Massachusetts STEM Summit in Newton, Mass.
The Engineering is Elementary (EiE) scholarship program will provide elementary teachers with high-quality professional development to introduce engineering and technology in their classrooms. The program uses the Engineering is Elementary curriculum, developed by the Museum’s National Center for Technological Literacy. Most elementary teachers have little experience with the subject matter and are often intimidated to teach it.
FIRST Robotics Championship
The Raytheon Technologies Scholar program supports students who participate in the FIRST Robotics Championship. This program awards up to 40 $1,000 scholarships to FIRST alumni who are pursuing undergraduate studies in math or computer science. Applicants should be high school seniors or full-time college freshmen.
FIRST(r) Tech Challenge is an international robotics competition for youth ages twelve to eighteen. Teams are guided by an adult mentor and learn STEM skills and engineering principles through hands-on practice. Teams also design team identities and conduct community outreach. As part of the Raytheon Technologies Scholar program, students are given free access to Cloud-based CAD tools.
Raytheon Technologies has been involved with FIRST since 2004. It sponsors regional competitions and robotics teams, and also offers mentor programs and scholarship opportunities. In California alone, Raytheon supports 40 teams. Hundreds of Raytheon employees volunteer as coaches and mentors.
The Raytheon Technologies Scholar program has helped thousands of students develop their skills. This program focuses on educating and inspiring young women and men in STEM. NASA invitation to participate in student launch initiative
The NASA Student Launch initiative is an engineering design competition aimed at providing high school and college students with real research assets that will be used in the development of the SLS spacecraft. This challenge will allow students to create and design an experiment for microgravity flight that will be returned to Earth after four to six weeks in orbit.
The competition is open to all college and university students, and will culminate in the launch of the winning team from NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, located outside of Washington, D.C., on April 13-15. The top ten teams will receive prizes from the $100,000 prize pool. Madison West, which won the U.S. championship, will receive a check for $20,000 as U.S. champions. The top 25 teams will also be invited to participate in NASA’s Student Launch initiative.
In addition to the competition, Student Launch has also provided a hands-on learning opportunity for students. Participants will receive a complete handbook to help them make the best rocket possible. The Handbook also includes important information about safety guidelines and competition rules. Students can submit their proposals for the next NASA Student Launch competition online via the NASA STEM Gateway system by the deadline of Sept. 19, 2022.
After their rockets successfully launched, they were invited to celebrate their achievement at the state capitol building. Students created and rehearsed presentations on their rockets, created Web sites about their work, and planned outreach activities for their communities.

In addition, the company has partnered with SHPE to help first-generation and low-income students get a college education. The program will be integrated into the Vergnano Institute for Inclusion, which will open in 2021.
Students pursuing a degree in STEM fields can apply for the Raytheon-FIRST Robotics Scholarship Program. The program supports the development of robotics and provides scholarships for full-time study beginning in sophomore, junior, and senior years.
